Zeiss Lenses Enter the World of the Smartphone

Partnered with ExoLens, Zeiss is bringing their premium optics to the iPhone, specifically wide-angle, macro, and telephoto lenses – but they won’t be cheap. In fact, just the wide-angle and macro lenses alone will cost you $299. If you want the telephoto, you have to buy it separately for another $199.

That’s not to say, however, that the lenses aren’t worth the cost. Zeiss is known in photography for making some of the best glass that money can buy, and these lenses are no different. The lenses have the same T* antireflective ZEISS coating that covers the glass on their DSLR lenses, and the quality of images is impressive.

Overall the images seem very sharp and quality, but I don’t think I would be willing to make any jump to purchase without a hands-on experience of my own. I suppose we’ll get some better reviews once the lenses are released.

Currently lenses will only be available for iPhone’s models 6 and up.
